Supplementary Report

Before starting treatment protocol for a health concern, you should ensure that your patient has a healthy oral ecology.

Our supplementary report provides you with information about your patient's oral microbiome — what can't be seen with a routine clinical examination. Each report includes video of live bacteria, describes cell morphology, and quantifies key genera implicated in inflammatory and disease states.

Each report provides information describing the presence and characteristics of the following organisms.

Spirochetes

Spirochetes are often seen as part of a polymicrobial consortia when the body is in a disease state. Part of their virulence lies in the ability to easily invade tissue and transport other pathogenic bacterial species to distal regions of the body. In health, spirochetes like T. denticola and other phylotypes are rarely seen in whole saliva, but in periodontitis they may account for 50% of bacteria in a periodontal lesion. Learn more

Gliding Rods

Gliding rods such as Fusobacterium nucleatum and Capnocytophaga spp. are often found in high numbers in periodontal disease, and can translocate to disease sites. Gliding rods can transport other pathogenic, non-motile bacteria to distal sites in the body and cause infection. Learn more

Other Potential Pathogens, and Dysbiosis

In addition to key pathogens, we provide a general overview of the abundance and diversity of organisms in a sample. Diversity taken into account with abundance and morphological analysis can provide information about the pathogenic potential of the microbial consortia, and risk factors associated with it.

If a sample shows a high abundance of fungi (Candida spp.), motile vibrio, or other notable characteristics that may be observed in cells, we include that data in the report as these observations may have clinical relevance.
